Key Steps
1. Open the Suffix Library from Legend Manager
Go to Legend Manager.
Find the box with an asterisk (*).
Click Suffix Library to open the suffix library screen.
This is where you manage suffixes used in electrical takeoff symbols.
2. Understand the Purpose of the Suffix Library
Electrical symbols often look identical except for small suffixes like GFCI or WP.
The suffix library helps you track those variations separately.
Each suffix gets its own count in your takeoff, so similar symbols are not grouped incorrectly.
3. Use the Custom List for Project-Specific Suffixes
The Custom List is for suffixes needed on a specific project.
You can keep one custom list per project.
Add any suffixes you expect to use only for that job.
You can rename this list if needed.
4. Share a Custom List to the Company List
Right-click your Custom List.
Choose the option to add it to the Company List.
Once added, the list is shared across your organization.
Everyone in your company can see and use the suffix list.
5. Use Pre-Built Templates as a Starting Point
The suffix library includes a few pre-built templates.
These templates auto-populate with common suffixes.
Use them as a quick starting point instead of building a list from scratch.
6. Add Suffixes by Extracting Them from the Plan
Click the Extract tool.
Your cursor changes to a plus sign.
Click and drag over the suffix and its description in the legend or plan.
This is useful when the suffix appears next to a description you want to capture too.
After selecting, review the extracted items and click Save and Review to add them to the library.
7. Add Suffixes Manually with a New Row
Click Add Entry or Add New Row.
Type in the suffix you want to add.
Enter a matching description so the suffix is clearly defined.
This is useful for adding items one at a time.
8. Review the Added Suffixes in the Library
After extraction, the library previews the items before saving.
Once saved, the new suffixes appear in the list.
Example suffixes added in the demo include:
+
GFI
WP
CR
U
Each one is stored with its description.
9. Rename the List if Needed
You can rename the list from default to any name you want.
Renaming the list does not change the company/shared list below.
This lets you organize lists in a way that makes sense for your project or workflow.
Cautionary Notes
Do not confuse the custom list with the company list; changes to the company list are shared across the organization.
When extracting suffixes, make sure you highlight the full suffix and its description so the entry imports correctly.
Always verify that each suffix has a matching description before saving.
Renaming a list changes only that list’s label, not the shared company list below.
Best Practices
Use the pre-built templates when possible to save setup time.
Extract multiple suffixes at once when they appear together in the legend.
Keep project-specific suffixes in the custom list and only promote reusable items to the company list.
Use consistent naming conventions for lists to make them easier to find later.
