Key Steps
1. Open the Legend Manager
Locate the L icon in the upper-right corner of the screen.
Click the icon to open the Legend Manager.
Confirm that the Legend Manager pop-up appears before continuing.
2. Start a New Legend Set
In the pop-up window, click Start a Legend Set.
Wait for the system to load the legend setup options.
Use this step to begin a new legend from scratch.
3. Select the Legend Type
Choose the type of legend you want to create.
For an electrical project, select Electrical.
Verify the correct legend type is selected before moving forward.
4. Add Symbols and Text to the Legend
Use Add Symbol to place individual symbols from the plan into the legend.
Use Add Blank to insert an empty row for custom content such as symbols, text, or other notes.
Use Extract Table to pull symbols, text, and descriptions directly into the legend.
5. Extract Data from Tables on Plan Pages
Use Find and Table Extract to locate pages that contain tables.
Review the detected table pages before extracting.
Extract symbols, text, and descriptions using the same process as the standard table extraction tool.
6. Add Individual Entries and Supporting Columns
Use the Add Entry tool at the top of the legend manager to manually add items.
Add a new column if you need more descriptive information for takeoff or internal reference.
Fill in the added fields with clear, useful details.
7. Rename the Legend for Organization
Double-click the legend name at the top of the legend manager.
Enter a new name that clearly identifies the legend.
Use consistent naming so multiple legends stay organized and easy to find.
8. Create Additional Legends as Needed
Click the plus (+) icon on the right-hand side of the Legend Manager.
Add additional legends when a project requires more than one set.
Use multiple legends to separate categories and improve clarity.
Cautionary Notes
Make sure you select the correct legend type before adding content.
Confirm extracted symbols, text, and descriptions are accurate before relying on them for takeoff.
Avoid leaving legends with generic names, especially when managing multiple sets.
Only add columns that provide meaningful value; too many columns can make the legend harder to use.
Best Practices
Start with the legend type first to avoid rework later.
Use table extraction when possible to save time on manual entry.
Rename legends immediately after creating them to keep projects organized.
Add extra columns only when they improve clarity for takeoff or review.
Create separate legends for different categories to make navigation easier.
